Das Werk soll Informationen über eine historische Epoche, hier die Zeit der Hanse am Beispiel des Lübecker Bürgermeisters Johann Wittenborg, transportieren und gleichzeitig unterhalten. Zu diesem Zweck verbindet der Autor Fakten und Fiktion miteinander. Die Leser*innen sollen an den umfangreichen Recherchen, den „Entdeckungsreisen“ des Autors teilhaben, um ihnen so „unter dem Deckmantel der Erzählung fast beiläufig wichtige Erkenntnisse“ zu vermitteln. | Abstract (English): | The following article offers a first-hand insight into the creation of historical comics by a comic author, drawing from experiences with the latest work that explores the Hanseatic League. Emphasizing the extensive research and artistic dedication required to accurately depict historical narratives, the author discusses the balance between storytelling, style, and educational content. Reflecting on childhood fascination with historical themes in comics, influenced by iconic series such as Asterix and Lucky Luke, the author explains how these early interests shaped current endeavors. The methodologies used, including on-site visits to historical locations and collaboration with experts to ensure authenticity, are detailed. Additionally, the author discusses the visual and narrative elements of the comics, highlighting choices in color schemes and stylistic approaches that contribute to conveying a vivid representation of the past.
