(DIPF/Orig.) |
| Abstract (English): | Based on empirical findings from an ethnographic study on the reception and appropriation of gangsta rap, this article examines the construction of urban insecurity in space-related stylisation practices. Popular spatial figures such as ‘ghetto’ and ‘street’ serve as cultural resources for young recipients to interpret themselves and others, and represent a central point of reference for the appropriation of gangsta rap. Through the analysis of stylisation practices, urban insecurity emerges as a performative element through which media staging and everyday life are aligned. Four overarching categories can be identified that are used in this practice to aesthetically charge urban insecurity: spatial environment, body, collective and conflicts. (DIPF/Orig.) |
