| Abstract (German): | Der Text analysiert die zukünftige Entwicklung von Lehrkräftebedarf und -angebot in Deutschland bis zum Jahr 2040 unter Berücksichtigung verschiedener demografischer Szenarien und unter konsequenter Berücksichtigung der von den Ländern gebildeten Lehramtstypen. Die Autoren kritisieren die bisherigen Prognosen der Kultusministerkonferenz als zu optimistisch, da diese den aktuellen Geburtenrückgang nicht ausreichend einbeziehen. Durch den Vergleich von Modellrechnungen wird deutlich, dass zwar langfristig ein rechnerischer Angebotsüberhang entstehen könnte, jedoch spezifische Mangelsituationen in der Sekundarstufe I und an berufsbildenden Schulen bestehen bleiben. Letztlich plädiert die Untersuchung dafür, eine mögliche „demografische Rendite“ für beispielhaft kalkulierte notwendige Qualitätsverbesserungen im Bildungssystem zu nutzen, anstatt lediglich den Status quo zu verwalten. | Abstract (English): | The text analyzes the future development of teacher supply and demand in Germany up to 2040, taking into account various demographic scenarios and consistently considering the specific teacher training tracks established by the federal states. The authors criticize previous forecasts by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs as overly optimistic, noting that they fail to adequately factor in the current decline in birth rates. A comparison of model projections reveals that, while a statistical surplus of teachers could emerge in the long term, specific shortages will persist in lower secondary education and vocational schools. Ultimately, the study advocates using the potential "demographic dividend" to implement necessary quality improvements in the education system—such as those modeled in the study—rather than simply managing the status quo.
