| Abstract (German): | In Saudi Arabien spielen der islamische Glaube und die Shari’ah eine zentrale Rolle im politischen und gesellschaftlichen Leben. Dies spiegelt sich auch im Bildungssystem des Landes wieder. Dieser Artikel gibt einen kurzen Überblick über das Bildungssystems Saudi Arabiens und beleuchtet insbesondere die Rolle der Religion im Erziehungswesen. Einer der zentralen Unterschiede im Vergleich zu europäischen Bildungssystemen ist dabei die zentrale Stellung des Glaubens und korrespondierend des Religionsunterrichts im Bildungswesen. Dieser beansprucht einen erheblichen Teil der Ausbildungskapazitäten, die entsprechend für andere Bereiche verloren gehen. Der Artikel schließt mit einer Problematisierung und kritischen Diskussion dieses Kernbefundes. (DIPF/Orig.) |
| Abstract (English): | In Saudi Arabia, the Muslim faith and the Shari’ah are of paramount importance for political and social life. This is particularly reflected in the country’s educational system. This paper provides a brief overview over the educational system of Saudi Arabia and examines the role of religion within this system and its corresponding practices. A key difference in comparison to European educational systems is the prominence of the Muslim faith and the importance of religious training within the educational system. This religious training absorbs a significant amount of the country’s teaching and other educational capacities which cannot be invested in other areas. The paper closes by critically discussing this aspect of Saudi Arabia’s educational system. (DIPF/Orig.) |
