Abstract (English):Despite many commonalities between human rights and sustainable development, their relationship is often reduced to the difference between human rights protection, on the one hand, and environmental protection, on the other. Similarly, in the field of education, the feature of their relationship is to draw clear borderlines against each other instead of cooperation. In order to demonstrate the need for and possibilities of working together between the two approaches, this paper will decipher their commonalities without the exclusion of the uniqueness of each approach. As concluding remarks, five commonalities are presented: Human Rights Education and Education for Sustainable Development are both based on the right to education, they share a global perspective, they reflect upon the political circumstances, they have a critical orientation, and they pursue the aim of a cultural change.
