| Abstract (German): | Den Fragen der Autonomie von pädagogischen Hochschulen soll hier am Beispiel der Pädagogischen Hochschule des Kantons St. Gallen (PHSG) nachgegangen werden. Die PHSG ist vor drei Jahren durch eine Fusion der beiden bestehenden Pädagogischen Hochschulen in Rorschach und St. Gallen entstanden. Im gleichen Zug, in dem man die Autonomie anspricht, werden auch die neuen Anforderungen diskutiert, die für Institutionen mit hoher Autonomie in Bezug auf ihre Führung bestehen. Letzteres wird dann oft unter Begriffen wie «Good Governance» oder auch «Corporate Governance» diskutiert, während hier zur Diskussion gestellt wird, ob für den Hochschulbereich,und da speziell für die pädagogischen Hochschulen, nicht viel treffender von «Corporate Social Responsibility» gesprochen werden sollte, d. h. von einem Konzept zur gesellschaftlichen Verantwortung von Organisationen. |
| Abstract (English): | To what extent are universities of teacher education in Switzerland autonomous? This question is analysed using the University of Teacher Education of St. Gallen (Pädagogische Hochschule des Kantons St. Gallen – PHSG) as a case study. The St. Gallen University of Teacher Education was formed following a merger of two institutions of higher education in Rorschach and St. Gallen. In analysing aspects of autonomy, the challenges for the management of an institution with a high degree of autonomy are discussed. These are often related to concepts such as «Good Governance» or «Corporate Governance». However, for institutions of higher education and more specifically for universities of teacher education the term «Corporate Social Responsibility» is suggested, to emphasize the social responsability of such organisations. |
