| Abstract (German): | Bildungsbauten und (Lern-)Räume sind ein elementarer Bestandteil professionellen pädagogischen Handelns: Ihre Gestaltung bestimmt weithin die didaktischen Optionen. Welche räumlichen Möglichkeiten finden Lernende und Lehrende in der Erwachsenenbildung aber realiter vor? Ist es möglich/erwünscht, Anforderungen an Raumsettings zu formulieren, um didaktische Konzepte realisieren zu können, oder geht es mehr um die pragmatisch-optimale Auslastung vorhandener Lehrräume? Der vorliegende Beitrag skizziert in einem historischen Rückblick den Diskurs über Erwachsenenbildung und Raum der letzten 100 Jahre. Dabei zeigt sich u.a., dass es oft gesellschaftliche Umbrüche waren, die die Auseinandersetzung mit der Raumthematik notwendig machten. Heute fordern Digitalisierung und die zunehmende Virtualisierung mehr denn je physische Lernraumkontextualisierungen heraus. Wie und wo soll das Lernen der Zukunft verortet sein? Ein Fazit des Beitrages: Um den physischen Raum an die Bedürfnisse der Lernenden und Lehrenden anzupassen, bedarf es einer „atmenden“ Raumstruktur und nicht einer Uniformierung in U- und Carré-Form. | Abstract (English): | Educational buildings and (learning) spaces are a fundamental component of professional pedagogic activity; their design determines didactic options to a large extent. Yet what spatial possibilities do learners and instructors in adult education actually find? Is it possible/desirable to formulate requirements for spatial settings in order to implement didactic concepts, or is the concern more with the pragmatic, optimal use of existing teaching spaces? This article provides a historical review of the discourse about adult education and space over the past 100 years. It appears that it was often social upheaval that necessitated an examination of the topic of space. Today the digital transformation and increasing virtualization are challenging physical learning space contextualizations more than ever before. How and where should learning take place in the future? One of the article‘s conclusions: To adapt the physical space to meet the needs of the learners and instructors, a spatial structure that “breathes” is required, not a uniform arrangement of tables in the shape of a U or a square.
