| Abstract (German): | Im Rückgriff auf Bernard Williams' Unterscheidung zwischen Ethik und Moral [vertritt der Autor] die These, dass die Ethik des Lehrens sich mit der Beziehung zwischen dem Leben, dass [man] als Lehrer(in) führt, und dem guten Leben beschäftigt. Die Ethik des Lehrens führt die Frage: "Warum lehre ich?" mit der Frage: "Wie möchte ich leben?" zusammen. Die moderne Gegenüberstellung von egoistischem Interesse und Altruismus führt zu einer Vernachlässigung des Wohlergehens des Lehrers / der Lehrerin. [Der Autor plädiert dafür], diese moralische Kurzsichtigkeit [zu] verlassen um zu fragen: Warum ist die Praxis des Lehrens es wert, dass sie im Zentrum meines Lebens steht? Wie bringt mich das Lehren zu den Gütern in Verbindung, die ich am meisten schätze? Wie unterstützt meine Sorge um Wachstum anderer auch mein Wachstum? (DIPF/Orig.) |
| Abstract (English): | Using Bernard Williams' ethics/morality distinction, I argue that the ethics of teaching concerns the relation between the teaching life and the good life, connecting the question "why teach?" with the question "how should I live?" The modern dichotomy between self-interest and altruism leads us to neglect the flourishing of the teacher. We must transcend this moral myopia to ask: Why is the practice of teaching worth putting at the center of my life? How does teaching put me in touch with the goods I prize most? How does tending to the growth of others nourish my own growth? (DIPF/Orig.) |
