| Abstract (German): | Der Schulartwechsel wird in der Bildungsforschung entweder als Indikator für die Offenheit des gegliederten Schulsystems aufgefasst oder dient als Beleg für die prognostische Schwäche der Übergangsentscheidung am Ende der Grundschulzeit. Der Beitrag zeigt, dass ca. 15 Prozent eines Schülerjahrgang die Schulart bis Ende der 10. Klasse wechseln. Schulartwechsel betrifft vor allem die Realschulen. Es wird argumentiert, dass Art und Häufigkeit von Schulartwechseln nur dann pädagogisch und bildungssoziologisch sinnvoll interpretiert werden können, wenn individuelle Entwicklungsverläufe der Schüler im Kontext der schulischen Rahmenbedingungen nachgezeichnet werden und der Schulartwechsel vor dem Hintergrund von Handlungsalternativen analysiert wird. | Abstract (English): | In educational research, changing of school types is considered either an indicator of the openness of the subdivided school system or a proof for the prognostic weakness of the transfer decisions taken at the end of elementary school. The study shows that about 15 percent of an age group switch from one school type to another up to the tenth grade. These changes concern above all the “Realschule”. It is argued that the manner and the frequency of school changes can only be interpreted in a sensible way if individual students´ educational careers are traced within the context of the basic school conditions and if the switching of schools is analyzed against the background of alternative ways of action.
