| Abstract (German): | Die Einführung der Orientierungsstufe war eng mit dem Ziel der Verbesserung des Auswahlverfahrens beim Zugang zu weiterführenden Schulen verbunden. Der Beitrag zeigt am Beispiel Niedersachsens, dass 30% der Schüler mit einer Hauptschulempfehlung und 51% der Schüler mit einer Realschulempfehlung einen höheren Schulabschluss erreichen als er der von der Orientierungsstufe empfohlenen Schulform entspricht. Die Ergebnisse der dargestellten Studien verweisen darauf, dass die Orientierungsstufe durch betont konservative Übergangsempfehlungen den Zugang zu Realschulen und Gymnasien eher erschwert und damit die in sie gesetzten Erwartungen nicht erfüllt. | Abstract (English): | The introduction of the orientation level was closely connected with the aim of improving selection at the point of transition to the secondary school level. The example of Lower Saxony shows that 30% of the students with a recommendation for the lower secondary school (Hauptschule) and 51% of the students with a recommendation for the middle secondary school (Realschule) graduate from a higher level than the one corresponding to the school form recommended by the teachers of the orientation level. The results of the studies presented suggest that - due to strongly conservative recommendations - the orientation level rather impedes the transition to the higher secondary schools (Realschule/Gymnasium), and thus does not meet the expectations connected with its implementation.
