| Abstract (German): | Der vorliegende Beitrag beschreibt Zugänge zur Gemeinwesenarbeit, die aus den USA und aus Großbritannien stammen. Es sind das drei Traditionslinien: die Settlementbewegung (Arnold Toynbee, GB), die radikaldemokratische Gemeinwesenarbeit (Saul D. Alinsky, USA) und die integrative Gemeinwesenarbeit (Murray G. Ross, USA). Im Anschluss werden Praxis und Theorie der Gemeinwesenarbeit in Österreich und Deutschland nach 1945 aufgegriffen und exemplarisch Bezüge zwischen Erwachsenenbildung und Grundthemen der Gemeinwesenarbeit hergestellt. | Abstract (English): | The present article describes approaches to community work which were developed in the U.S.A. and Great Britain. It introduces the following three lines of tradition: the settlement movement (Arnold Toynbee, GB), radical community organizing (Saul D. Alinsky, USA) and co-operative community organization (Murray G. Ross, USA). The article then takes a closer look at the practice and theory of community development in Austria and Germany after 1945 and presents examples and links between adult education and basic topics of community development.
