(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (English):The way in which media education projects are constructed might benefit greatly from the use of pretest-posttest two-group designs. This study uses a three-wave panel study to discuss the advantages and specific characteristics of these designs. This study aims to answer two key questions: 1) How do adolescents acquire political knowledge by using online information sources? 2) How is the way in which they acquire this knowledge influenced by their subjective assessment of the information sources they access, and what role is played by their own perceived self-efficacy with respect to politics and to the media? Prior to the second wave, 36 of the 143 participants took part in a media literacy activity. The choice of intervention point allowed for the identification of existing differences in the sample. Furthermore, the results of the second and third waves made it possible to diagnose the causal effects of the intervention itself. This article discusses both the method and the procedure used in the study against the backdrop of current methodological discussions in media education research. (DIPF/Orig.)
