| Abstract (German): | Der Beitrag setzt sich kritisch mit neueren bildungsökonomischen Studien auseinander, die auf der Basis internationaler Datensätze die These glauben stützen zu können, durch eine Stärkung des Privatschulsektors ließen sich nachhaltige Qualitätsverbesserungen im Schulbereich erzielen. Hingewiesen wird auf den eingeschränkten Aussagegehalt solcher Studien und auf das uneinheitliche Bild, das die Forschung insgesamt zur Wirksamkeit des Wettbewerbs durch Privatschulen vermittelt. Eine generelle Leistungsüberlegenheit privater Schulen ist weder im internationalen noch im nationalen Kontext nachweisbar. (DIPF/Orig.) |
| Abstract (English): | This contribution critically deals with more recent studies on the economics of education. Since these studies are based on international data, they are believed to be supportive to the thesis that by strengthening the private school sector, sustained quality improvements can be achieved within schools. The author emphasizes the restricted significance of such studies and points out that in overall research, there is no uniform estimation of the effectiveness of competition promoted by private schools. Evidence of a general superiority of private schools' performances could neither be found in international, nor in national research. (DIPF/Orig.) |
