| Abstract (German): | In diesem Beitrag geht es um eine Einführung in die Grundlagen der Typenbildung in der qualitativen Sozialforschung. Es soll gezeigt werden, wie der Forschungsprozess vom Fall zum Typus führen kann. Als erster Bezugspunkt für die Betrachtung sozialwissenschaftlicher Typenbildung wird Max Webers Konzept des Idealtypus herangezogen. Im Anschluss werden verschiedene methodologische Perspektiven auf das sozialwissenschaftliche Verfahren der Typenbildung skizziert, welche zu einer eindimensionalen Typenbildung führen – bspw. die Objektive Hermeneutik. Schließlich soll der Fokus auf der (mehrdimensionalen) Typenbildung im Rahmen des Forschens mit der Dokumentarischen Methode gelegt werden, wobei abschließend Bezug auf eigene empirische Beispiele genommen wird. Leitend wird hier die Frage, wie im Sinne einer Abduktion vom Fall zum Typus abstrahiert wird und ob bzw. wie dabei ein „Bruch mit dem Common Sense“ (Bourdieu 1996: 269, zitiert nach Bohnsack 2013: 244) eingehalten werden kann. | Abstract (English): | This article is an introduction to the basics of type formation in qualitative social research. It will be shown how the research process can lead from the case to the type. Max Weber's concept of the ideal type is used as a first point of reference for the consideration of social science type formation. Subsequently, various methodological perspectives on the social science process of type formation will be outlined, which lead to one-dimensional type formation - for example, objective hermeneutics. Finally, the focus will be placed on (multidimensional) typing in the context of research with the documentary method, with a final reference to own empirical examples. The guiding question here is how to abstract from the case to the type in the sense of an abduction and whether or how a “break with common sense” (Bourdieu 1996: 269, zitiert nach Bohnsack 2013: 244) can be adhered to.
