| Abstract (German): | Können uns Utopien dabei helfen, die gegenwärtigen sozialen Krisen zu lösen und eine erfolgreiche sozial-ökologische Transformation zu bewerkstelligen? Diese Frage beschäftigt den Autor ausgehend von seinen Erfahrungen als Student an der Humboldt-Universität und als Mitglied einer reformsozialistischen Gruppe der letzten Jahre der DDR. Unverzichtbar war auch eine kritische Reflexion des Scheiterns des osteuropäischen Staatssozialismus. Neben seinen Erfahrungen bringt der Autor seine Kompetenz als Politik- und Osteuropawissenschaftler ein. Einen zweiten Schwerpunkt bildet die Frage, wo genau in diesem Wandel Utopien wirken können. Ihr Ort wird in einem kulturellen Wandel gesehen; der Wandel der Kultur vollzieht sich dabei im Zusammenhang mit radikalen Strukturveränderungen sowohl der demokratischen Praxis als auch in der Wirtschaft und der vorherrschenden Lebensweise. Utopien können nur als Einheit von Kritik gegebener Missstände und anziehenden Bildern einer möglichen Zukunft wirksam werden. In Anbetracht der Erfahrungen des 20. Jahrhundert soll betont werden, dass diese Art Utopien nur aus vielfältigen individuellen und kollektiven Suchprozessen entstehen kann. (DIPF/Orig.) |
| Abstract (English): | Can utopias help us to solve the current social crises and to accomplish a successful socio-ecological transformation? The author uses for the answer his experiences as a student at Humboldt University and as a member of a reform socialist group in the last few years of the GDR. Additionally necessary is a critical reflection on the failure of Eastern European state socialism. In addition to his experience, the author brings in his expertise as a scholar of Political Science and an expert of Eastern Europe. A second focus is the question of where exactly utopias can have an effect in this change: It is the cultural change where they matter. The transformation of culture takes place in connection with radical structural changes in democratic practice as well as in the economy and the prevailing way of life. Utopias can only become effective as a unity of criticism of given grievances and attractive images of a possible future. In view of the experiences of the 20th century, it should be emphasized that this type of utopia can only arise from diverse individual and collective search processes. (DIPF/Orig.) |
