(DIPF/Orig.) |
| Abstract (English): | Using the example of a text-picture combination on the processes at a chemical synapse from a textbook, we investigate in two experiments to what extent the application of selected and didactically specifically combined multimedia principles (study 1: spatial contiguity, signaling, segmenting) and the different sequence in the presentation of text and picture (study 2: sequencing) can reduce the mental load and increase the understanding of learners in the introductory phase of upper secondary school compared to the original material. In essence, both studies provide evidence that the application of the principles can positively support subjectspecific learning with a text-picture combination on this content. Experiment 1 in particular showed a significantly reduced mental load (d = 1.04) and greater learning success (r = .29) when working with material modified. The significance of the results and their transferability to other subject content are discussed in the article, as well as the implications for research and practice. (DIPF/Orig.) |
