| Abstract (German): | Bibliotheken nehmen innerhalb einer Hochschule eine zentrale Stellung als informeller Lernraum ein. Die Anforderungen an diesen Raum wandeln sich ständig. Dieser Beitrag zeigt, wie Bibliotheken den hohen und wechselnden Anforderungen gerecht werden und nach welchen Prinzipien sie sich dabei richten. Anhand von zwei Beispielen wird aufgezeigt, dass es keinen Königsweg für die Konzeption einer guten Bibliothek gibt, sondern dass eine Bibliothek immer auch von der jeweiligen Situation und der jeweiligen Hochschule geprägt wird. |
| Abstract (English): | In universities and colleges, libraries play a crucial part as informal learning spaces. The demands made on these spaces are in permanent change. This article contributes to a deeper understanding of how libraries try to fulfil the varying needs of their users, and of the principles which guide this process. As the examples of Lucerne and Warwick show, there is no single best way of planning well-designed informal learning spaces, because a library is always shaped and influenced by the current situation and the environment of the local university or college. |
