| Abstract (English): | This study illuminates various effects on high-school students’ inclinations to choose music electives at the upper-level. It juxtaposes self-motivation, experiences of competence, families’ interest in music, and pedagogical individualization as perceived by students (n=672) with motivation, orientation to competence, and individualization as indicated by their respective teachers (n=32). A multilevel pathway analysis shows a direct effect of students’ motivation on the likelihood of their choosing music education. Furthermore, motivation mediates the effects of individualization and experiencing competence on students’ choosing music as their electives. Teachers’ motivation influences both their orientation to competence and pedagogical individualization in music education. Additionally, individualization as indicated by teachers directly influences individualization as perceived by students. (DIPF/Orig.) |
