Abstract (German):Das Gymnasium wurde in den neuen Bundesländern erst mit dem Schulstrukturwandel 1991 wieder eingeführt. Wie sich diese Situation auf die Entwicklung einzelner Schulen auswirkt, stand im Mittelpunkt unseres Forschungsinteresses. Vergleichende Befunde wurden dazu mit qualitativen und quantitativen Verfahren an ausgewählten Gymnasien in Thüringen (1995) und Bayern (1997) erhoben. Theoretische Bezugspunkte beider Studien waren die Transformations- sowie die "Qualität von Schule"-Forschung. Davon ausgehend stellte sich einerseits die Frage, ob, und wenn ja, wie "langfristige mentale Prägungen" den Transformationsprozeß in spezifischer Weise bestimmen. Andererseits wurde über drei zentrale schulische Gestaltungsbereiche - Lern-, Erziehungs- und Organisationskultur - nach Unterschieden in der gymnasialen Schulkultur zwischen Ost und West gefragt. Abstract (English):The "Gymnasium" was re-introduced in the new Laender with the school-related structural changes of 1991. In their research, the aut[h]ors focus on the influence this situation has had on the development of individual schools. By drawing on both qualitative and quantitative procedures, comparative findings were collecte at select "Gymnasien" in both Thuringia (1995) and Bavaria (1997). The theoretical points of reference of both sudies were provided by transformation research and research on the quality of schools. This led, on the one hand, to the question whether and, if so, how "long-term mental formations" determine the transformation process in a specific way. On the other hand, differences between the school structure of "Gymnasien" in East and in West Germany were investigated within the framework of three central fields of schooling - the culture of learning, of education, and of organization.
