| Abstract (German): | Der Beitrag berichtet von einer Untersuchung zum Wissen Jugendlicher über Entwicklungsländer sowie zu deren Einstellungen und ihrer Bereitschaft, sich für Entwicklungsländer zu engagieren. Die Daten stammen aus einer gesamtschweizerischen repräsentativen Erhebung bei rd. 5000 Schülerinnen und Schülern der 7. bis 9. Stufe. Im Vergleich mit anderen Informationsquellen spielt die Schule eine wichtige Rolle in bezug auf das Bild, das sich Jugendliche von Entwicklungsländern machen. Je häufiger diese Länder im Unterricht behandelt werden, desto größer sind das Wissen und die Handlungsbereitschaft der Jugendlichen. Allerdings stehen Wissen und Handlungsbereitschaft auch mit einem negativen Bild der Entwicklungsländer in Zusammenhang. Für die Schule stellt sich die Aufgabe, den Jugendlichen auch die positiven Seiten dieser Länder zu vermitteln, ohne ihre hohe Bereitschaft zum Engagement zu beeinträchtigen. (DIPF/Orig.) |
| Abstract (English): | The paper gives an account of a study about the knowledge and the attitudes of young Swiss people concerning developing countries and their readiness to engage for them. The data stem from a representative inquiry by questionnaires in which about 5000 pupils from all parts of Switzerland took part. The results indicate that schools are the most important source of information about third world countries. The more frequently these countries are dealt with in school the broader the knowledge of young people and the higher their readiness to act in favour of them. The study also shows that a high degree of engagement and a negative image of these countries are closely related. The authors conclude with the demand for a more realistic teaching of young people about developing countries without impairing their readiness to engage. (DIPF/Orig.) |
