| Abstract (English): | The purpose of this study was to determine predictors which affect self-related cognitions (perceived self-efficacy of teaching music and feeling musical) of preservice primary classroom teachers in a university music methods course. A questionnaire was administered as a pre-test/post-test to teacher candidates (N = 469) enrolled in a compulsory music methods course at several Bavarian universities. Findings show enhanced perceived self-efficacy as well as a more positive perception of their own musicality. The four sources of self-efficacy according to Bandura (1997) seem to be predictors of the development of self-efficacy, but in addition, responses to open-ended questions revealed some music-specific variations of predictors that should be considered for a university music methods course.
