Abstract (English):Very few studies have been conducted on the professionalisation of music teachers in elementary schools. The present follow-up study compares characteristics of teachers relevant for teaching at elementary schools (N=578) and grammar schools (N=487). A structural equation model was used to test the influence of motivation, instrumental praxis, self-reflexion, teaching experience and curriculum orientation on the competence orientation of music teachers. At elementary schools, competence orientation strongly depends on the curriculum orientation of teachers whereas at grammar schools, motivation is the key influencing factor. In comparison, music teachers at grammar schools show a higher motivation than their colleagues at elementary schools. (DIPF/Orig.)
