| Abstract (German): | In der bildungspolitischen Diskussion kommt nach Meinung der Autoren ein Aspekt zu kurz: Es ist Aufgabe der Schule, allen Kindern jene zentralen Kompetenzen zu vermitteln, die diese zur Mitwirkung in einer demokratischen Gesellschaft benötigen. Dieser Anspruch wird in den USA erneut diskutiert und von der dortigen Lehrer-Gewerkschaft unterstützt. In einer weiten und öffentlichen Diskussion wird versucht, solche Standards eines Kern-Curriculums zu entwickeln und verbindlich zu machen als Voraussetzung für Kooperation und Solidarität. | Abstract (English): | According to the authors, the education debate overlooks one vital aspect: it is the purpose of the public school to impart to all students those central competences they need to have to participate in a democratic society. These claims, supported by the American Federation of Teachers, is being re-discussed in the U.S. In a broad and public debate an attempt is made to develop - and make mandatory - core-curriculum standards as a condition for cooperation and solidarity.
